Widgets from the Hugo Academic theme that make up the home page are found in the /home folder.

For those who are not familiar with the Hugo Academic theme, a “widget” is one of those distinguishable “rows” on the homepage. You can learn more about them at Hugo Academic's “Page Builder” documentation.

`/authors` folder

This folder contains info about the teaching team that feeds into the widget on the home page. Hugo Academic requires this specific structure.

All other files and folders

Documents for producing other web pages. These have to be specifically linked to from the home page (or somewhere else accessible) in order for a viewer to access them.

This website has the blogdown package wrapping it, meaning that the website is best set up with .Rmd source files.

See the Outreach and Education Program on the CORE Lab’s main site.

Do I need a computer?

YES. You absolutely must have access to a computer on which you can install software, download data, etc. In fact, class meetings will be a mix of lecture, discussion, and live coding. Students will get the most out of this if they can bring their own laptop to class every day. If this is not possible, we will try to help you work something out.

What do I need installed on my computer?

Data Science for Practitioners
- R
  - The primary tool we will use throughout this course is the R programming language, a freely available language for statistical computing and graphics that runs on Linux, Windows, and MacOS. While R was originally designed as a language targeting statistical analysis, it has grown to be one of the primary open source tools used within the data science domain.
- RStudio
  - We will use RStudio as our interface to the R language. RStudio is a freely available integrated development environment (IDE).

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites. No previous exposure to programming or data analysis is expected, but would certainly be helpful.
